LS7 Cylinder Head Issues (Overview)
1. Valve Guide Wear (Primary Issue)
The most common and serious LS7 problem is premature valve guide wear.
Factory valve guides were often out of spec (too loose or inconsistently machined)
Excessive wear allows the valve to wobble
This can lead to:
Burnt valves
Dropped valves
Catastrophic engine failure
Preventative head work is far cheaper than an engine replacement
⚠️ Failures have occurred on stock engines, sometimes under 20–30k miles.
The LS7 is an exceptional engine, but the factory cylinder heads are its Achilles’ heel
The issue is well understood and solvable
